A project near and dear to my heart, the Academic Art Journal Gallery—or the AcaArt Journal—is a series of mixed media art pieces that seeks to recreate the things that I read in a different space. This was originally conceptualized when I took a class on Special Education for my teaching certification. As an English Literature and Educational Studies major at Swarthmore, I was expected to read over hundreds of pages of academic articles and books per week. Frankly the small, compressed text and occasional anti-screen reader friendly faded photocopies made some reading experiences much more incomprehensible and at times painful. This gallery hopes to counteract that aspect of inaccessibility and archive the lessons I’ve reflected on from the sea of dense text.
This area is still uncharted territory!
